Open Call — Friends of Fulbright Public Engagement Program
Applicant Profile
The call for applications is aimed at Colombian and US Fulbrighters—graduates or active beneficiaries—who have been selected through the Fulbright Commission Colombia and are interested in leading or strengthening educational initiatives with social impact.
The goal is to identify candidates with experience in research, teaching, or outreach who are committed to generating concrete and verifiable results that contribute to the advancement of their ongoing projects. Projects may be developed individually or in partnership with universities, research centers, or civil society organizations, with priority given to proposals that promote educational innovation and community strengthening.
Program description
The Friends of Fulbright Public Engagement Program aims to identify, select, and fund educational causes led by Colombian and American Fulbrighters, alumni, or active beneficiaries who are or were part of Fulbright Commission Colombia programs.
Through this program, the Fulbright Friends Foundation (FAF) will lead crowdfunding campaigns on public platforms and provide FAF resources to support initiatives that require specific assistance to complete a project phase, generate applied evidence, or address specific academic needs.
Proposals should focus on obtaining concrete and verifiable results, such as technical products, validations, or academic advances, and may be developed individually or in partnership with universities, research centers, or civil society organizations.
Selected projects will receive support from FAF during the campaign and may access matching funds depending on FAF budget availability.
Requirements

- Formato de aplicación con la descripción del proyecto propuesto, incluyendo título, problema, objetivo, plan de actividades, cronograma y resultados esperados.
- Disaggregated budget
- Updated resume (CV) of the Fulbrighter and the co-implementing team (if applicable).
- Copy of your identity card or passport.
- Certification as a graduate or active beneficiary of the Fulbright Colombia Program.
- Institutional letter or letter of support from the partner organization (if applicable).
- Optional attachments, such as portfolio, links, previous materials, or evidence of the current or expected project.
Proposals must comply with all formal requirements and be submitted within the established deadline to be considered in the evaluation process.
Benefits
Fulbrighters selected through the Friends of Fulbright Public Engagement Program will receive comprehensive support from the Friends of Fulbright Foundation to strengthen and raise awareness of their educational projects.
Benefits include:
- Design, management, and execution of a crowdfunding campaign led by the FAF, with strategic support in the narrative, communication, and public dissemination of the project.
- Matching funds provided by the FAF, subject to budget availability.
- Technical and academic advice during the structuring, execution, and presentation of project results.
- Support in planning and documenting deliverables, such as technical reports, academic products, or transfer materials.
- Publication and visibility of results on the Fulbright Friends Foundation’s digital channels, promoting recognition of the impact generated by the Fulbright community.
- Strengthening networks and partnerships between Fulbrighters, universities, research centers, and civil society organizations.
This program offers Fulbrighters the opportunity to turn their educational causes into projects with verifiable results, strengthening the Fulbright community’s commitment to Colombia’s social and educational development.
Step by step
To apply for this call, interested parties must follow these steps:
- Carefully read the Terms of Reference for the Friends of Fulbright Public Engagement Program and its annexes, which detail the eligibility criteria, evaluation process, and application requirements.
- Prepare the project proposal, including a description of the cause, activity plan, timeline, expected results, implementation team, strategy for visibility of products and results, and a detailed budget.
- Gather the required documents listed in the Requirements section, such as your resume, Fulbright certification, identity document, and optional attachments.
- Complete the application form available through the official channels of the FAF and attach all the required documentation within the established deadline.
- Wait for the verification and evaluation of proposals by the technical and academic committee appointed by the FAF.
- The selected cases will be officially notified.
- The call for applications will be open from December 9, 2025, to April 12, 2026.

On your next tax return, you can deduct 25% of the amount donated to the Fulbright Friends Foundation, which goes toward the Fulbright Commission Colombia scholarship programs.
What are tax benefits?
In Colombia, when you donate to a non-profit organization (ESAL) qualified under the Special Tax Regime (RTE), such as the Fulbright Friends Foundation, you can obtain a discount on your income tax equivalent, as a general rule, to 25% of the value donated. In other words, that percentage is subtracted directly from the tax due on your income tax return for the year in which you made the donation.
How much can I deduct?
- 25% of the donated value (tax deduction under Article 257 of the Tax Statute).
- The discounts for items 255, 256, and 257, when added together, cannot exceed 25% of your income tax liability.
- If you have a portion of the discount from Article 257 left over, you can use the surplus in the following taxable period.
Who applies?
Individuals and legal entities that declare income in Colombia and make donations to ESALs classified in the RTE or to non-taxable entities under Articles 22 and 23 of the Tax Statute (according to the regulations).
Practical requirements for applying for the benefit
- Donate to a qualified entity in RTE, verified in the DIAN registry.
- Make payment through the financial system (transfer, card, check), in accordance with the terms of Article 125-2.
- Obtain the “donation certificate” issued by the recipient entity, signed (legal representative and accountant/auditor, where applicable), with: date, type of entity, type of asset donated, value, form of delivery, and destination. It must be issued no later than one month after the end of the tax year. Keep this document for your tax return.

Does the Fulbright Friends Foundation provide donation certificates for tax benefits?
Yes, the Fulbright Friends Foundation will provide you with a donation certificate signed by the Auditor. This document must be submitted to your accountant along with the required documentation to ensure that the tax benefits are applied in your income tax return for the year in which the donation was made.
How can I obtain the 25% deduction on my income tax return?
The Foundation will send you, by email, the donation certificate issued by the Auditor, no later than February of the following year after your donation. You must provide this certificate to your accountant when preparing your income tax return so the 25% deduction on the donation amount can be applied.
